SCOTLAND: Smoked Salmon Pizza
- Mascarpone cheese
- Shallots, minced
- Fresh lemon juice
- Chopped fresh chives
- Smoked salmon
Mix cheese, shallots, lemon juice and chives and spread on base. Bake 15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Immediately sprinkle with salmon and chives.
AFGHANISTAN: Bonjan Chalow Pizza
- Eggplant
- Hot Peppers
- Tomato sauce
- Mozzarella
- Green and Red Bell peppers
- Garlic
- Yellow Onion
- Tomatoes
- Coriander
- Black pepper
Fry your sliced yellow onion and your eggplant (in thin strips) in some oil until lightly browned. Add about a teaspoon of crushed garlic and some salt and then put this mixture aside. Cover your base with tomato sauce and cheese. Now add all your toppings, except coriander. Bake 15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Sprinkle with coriander.
JAMAICA: Jerk Chicken Pizza
- A boneless, skinless chicken breast
- Jerk seasoning
- Olive oil
- Shiitake mushrooms, sliced
- Barbecue sauce
- Asiago cheese, grated
- Mozzarella, shredded
- Smoked mozzarella, grated
Coat chicken with jerk seasoning. Heat olive oil in a saute pan and
when hot, sear chicken on both sides. Remove chicken from pan, add
mushrooms to pan and saute them for about 1 minute. Drain liquid from
pan. Slice chicken into thin strips. Now, spoon barbecue sauce onto base. Top with mushrooms and chicken strips. Sprinkle cheeses on top. Bake 15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Garnish with mango salsa if you can find some.
GERMANY: Oktoberfest Pizza
- Swiss Cheese
- Sauerkraut, well drained
- Muenster cheese, shredded
- Smoked bratwurst
- Cheddar cheese, shredded
Sprinkle base with swiss cheese, top with sauerkraut, then muenster cheese and bratwurst. Bake 15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
THE PHILIPPINES: Banana and Ricotta Pizza with Ham
- Ricotta cheese
- Bananas, peeled and sliced
- 2 Tablespoons Unsalted butter
- Cooked ham or Veggie ham, thin sliced
Lay the banana slices on your base in concentric circles. Brush the butter over the
bananas. Transfer to the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from
the oven and cover with the ham slices. Quickly return to the oven,
reduce the temperature to 400F and bake another 5-10 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
INDIA: Spicy Pizza
- 2 Tbs green curry paste
- 1 Tbs chilli oil
- fruit chutney
- plain yoghurt
- thinly sliced chicken breast
- chopped coriander or parsley
- cucumber slices
Spread base with curry paste to within 1cm from the edge.
Grill for about 2 minutes or until hot. Heat oil in a frying pan
and cook chicken 2 - 3 minutes or until cooked through. Top
pizza base with chicken. Add cucumber slices and dabs of chutney. Mix yoghurt and coriander together. Drizzle on pizza and serve immediately.
LEBANON: Lahem Bil Ajine
- olive oil
- mild onions, fine chopped
- ground lamb or other meat (or veggie ground beef)
- coriander
- tomato paste
- 1 tsp. Lebanese spice
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- parsley
- 1 can drained, chopped tomatoes
Mix topping ingredients except for olive oil and onions. Heat oil and
onions. Add cooked onions to topping ingredients. Bake 15 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
IRELAND: Pizza Colcannon
- Canned potatoes
- Onion, sliced
- Parsley
- Monterey Jack Cheese
Slice potatoes very thin and put down a couple layers on the base. Sprinkle wiht a liberal dose of cheese and top with onions and parsley. Salt and pepper to taste. Bake 15 minutes or until crust is golden brown. You could add sauteed leeks to this too, if you wish.
POLAND: Spinach Pierogi Pizza
- cooked spinach
- onions, fine chopped
- Butter
- Mashed potatoes
- 2 T Oil
- 1/2 t Garlic salt
- Shredded mozzarella
- Shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1 sm Onion, sliced, separated into rings
In a large skillet cook spinach and chopped onion in butter until
onion is crisp-tender. Stir in potatoes; mix well. In small
bowl, combine oil and garlic salt; mix well. Brush over
crust; top with spinach mixture. Sprinkle with
mozzarella and then Cheddar cheeses; top with onion rings. Bake
for 15 to 20 minutes or until cheese is melted and edges
of crust are golden brown.
ITALY: Pizza Margherita
- 1 can seasoned pasta-style tomatoes, well drained
- Thinly sliced fresh basil
- Butter
- Grated mozzarella cheese
Sprinkle tomatoes and basil over base, leaving 1-inch border. Top with cheese. Bake until crust is golden brown.
WALES: Goat Cheese and Leek Galette
- 1/3 cup dry white wine
- butter
- Butter
- sliced leeks (white and pale green parts only)
- marjoram
- 4 ounces soft fresh goat cheese (such as Montrachet), crumbled
- 1 egg, beaten to blend
Heat wine and butter in heavy medium skillet over medium-low heat until butter melts. Add leeks. Cover; cook until leeks are crisp-tender, about 4 minutes. Remove from heat. Mix in marjoram. Stir egg into leek mixture. Spread leek mixture over base, leaving 1-inch border on all sides. Sprinkle cheese and pepper over it. Bake until egg is cooked and edges of crust are golden brown.
EGYPT: Bamya Bil Takhdi'a Pizza
- 1 Package of frozen, cut okra
- Cooked ground beef or veggie ground beef
- Onion, sliced
- Garlic, minced
- Tomato sauce
- Mozzarella
- Red and/or green bell pepper, diced
Spread tomato sauce in a layer over base. Add shredded cheese and chopped garlic. Add cooked 'meat' and the rest of your toppings. Bake until edges of crust are golden brown.
SPAIN: Paella Pizza Basquaise
- Canned clams
- Shrimp
- Onion, sliced
- Garlic, minced
- Tomato sauce
- Mozzarella
- Ripe tomatoes, chopped
- Basil
- Oregano
- Saffron
- Chili pepper
- Red bell pepper, finely sliced
Spread tomato sauce in a layer over base. Add shredded cheese and chopped garlic. Sprinkle with spices. Add seafood and the rest of your toppings. Bake until edges of crust are golden brown.
ICELAND: Salmon and Blue Cheese Pizza
- Lymeswold or other soft blue cheese
- Salmon, canned or cooked
- finely grated peel of 2 lemons
- 3 tbsp fresh thyme
- Salt and pepper
Spread cheese in a layer over base. Add salmon, lemon peel, and thyme. Salt and pepper to taste. Bake until edges of crust are golden brown.
ENGLAND: Cucumber and Onion Pizza
- Button onions
- Sliced english cucumber
- 2 basil sprigs
- butter
- Mozzarella
- Freshly ground pepper & salt
Sautee onions in a little butter. Add sliced cucumbers and chopped basil. Put this mixture on top of your base and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste. Bake until cheese is bubbling and edges of crust are golden brown.
SOUTH AFRICA: Monkey Gland Pizza
- Thinly sliced cooked steak
- Diced onion
- Diced tomatoes
- Ketchup
- Worcestershire sauce
- Garlic, minced
- Chutney
- Dash o' Tabasco
- Pinch of brown sugar
- Mozzarella
Make a mixture of ketchup, worcestershire, chutney, tabasco, sugar, and garlic. Make sure to put in more of the ketchup than the other stuff. Spread this in a thin layer over base. Sprinkle on mozzarella. Add steak, onion, and tomatoes. Bake until edges of crust are golden brown. Note: I adapted this from a traditional recipe called "Monkey Gland Steaks" which contains no monkey glands to speak of either. Luckily.
BRAZIL: Feijoada Pizza
- Sweet sausage, such as Portuguese chorico
- bacon, pre-cooked and drained
- Onion, sliced
- Canned refried black beans
- Mozzarella
- Garlic, minced
- Red bell pepper, sliced
Spread black beans in a layer over base. Add shredded cheese and chopped garlic. add sausage, chopped bacon and bell pepper. Bake until edges of crust are golden brown.
MEXICO: Tostada Pizza
- Vegetable oil
- Ground beef or veggie ground beef
- taco seasoning mix
- One can refried beans
- Shredded American cheese
- Salsa
- Chopped onion
- Chopped tomatoes
- Shredded lettuce
Spread beans over the crust. Top with 'meat' mixture. Sprinkle cheese on. Top pizza with salsa, chiles, onion, tomato and shredded lettuce. Bake 15 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
THAILAND: Thai Pizza
- Peanut sauce
- Bean sprouts,rinsed/drained
- Jack cheese,shredded
- Tiny shrimp,rinsed/drained
- Finely chopped green onion
- Crushed dried red hot chiles
- Coriander
Spread peanut sauce on base, then sprinkle with cheese and bean sprouts. Bake until cheese has melted and begin to brown, about 12-15 minutes. Take pizza out of oven and top equally with shrimp and onion. Add chilies and coriander to taste.
GREECE: Chicken Gyros Pizza
- Boneless, skinless chicken breast cut into 2 x 1/4 x 1/4" strips
- Caesar (not creamy) or vinaigrette salad dressing
- 1/4 c Light sour cream
- Chopped fresh mint OR Dried mint leaves
- Pepper
- Garlic clove, minced
- Butter
- plum tomatoes
- Onion, sliced
- Diced cucumber
- Crumbled feta cheese
- Monterey Jack cheese
In shallow bowl, combine chicken and salad dressing; stir to
coat. Cover, refrigerate. Heat oven to 425 degrees. Meanwhile,
in small bowl combine sour cream, mint, pepper and garlic; mix
well. Drain chicken; discard marinade. Heat butter in large
skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add chicken and onion;
cook and stir 6 to 8 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink.
Spread sour cream mixture over crust, including
edges. Top with Monterey Jack cheese. Place
chicken mixture evenly over cheese. Top with tomato slices,
cucumber and feta cheese. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until
edges of crust are deep golden brown and Monterey Jack cheese is
melted. Garnish with fresh mint leaves, if desired..
CHINA: Chinese Pizza
- Sesame oil
- Hoisin sauce
- Ketchup
- Mozzarella
- 2 Cloves garlic, finely minced Or 3 slices ginger grated
- Shredded water chestnuts
- 5 dried black mushrooms, shredded
- green onion,shredded
- Onion, sliced
- Bell pepper, shredded
Spread sesame oil on base, then spread a mixture of hoisin sauce and ketchup. Add cheese and toppings, and bake 15 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
FRANCE: Escargot and Chanterelle Pizza
- Dried chanterelle mushrooms
- Canned escargots
- Raclette cheese
- Tomato sauce
- 2 Cloves garlic
- Fresh parsley
- butter
Prepare the dried mushrooms (soak, wash, cut, resoak, wash, drain). Drain the snails well. Melt the butter in a baking dish, add the snails, crushed garlic, and salt and black pepper to taste. Spread the tomato sauce in an even layer on the base, then sprinkle the raclette cheese over it. Add the snails, and then the mushrooms. and bake 15 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
